Magic Sets For Adults Do Exist – Here’s the Top 3

By Ken Ryan on May 1, 2019 0

Many persons think that magic sets were made for kids. But that is not the truth. They think so because it is a challenge to find a magic set that is meant for an adult especially when one is not sure about what he is looking for. It would be somewhat embarrassing to get some adult a magic set as a gift and when they open it, they tell you that the gift was age inappropriate. So, the author is using this blog piece to show that magic set for adults do exist. The magic set for kids are meant to be rudimentary and to introduce kids to what magic is all about. Therefore, many adults would not find them fun or interesting. That is why one has to do his research very well on magic sets in order to wow them and make them aspire to be good in their magical challenges. The author therefore compiled a list of magic sets for adults that he believes are beneficial and live up to the challenge. The list is included in the blog.

Key Takeaways:

  • Magic sets are for kids as well as for adults but it can be difficult to choose one for one’s adult friends when one doesn’t know what it is.
  • It would be quite embarrassing for one to get his friends a gift and to realize after they open it that it was not appropriate for them.
  • One magic set for adults is the Complete Magician’s Kit by Joshua Jay. It states that it was designed to fill the void in magic sets for adults.

“Since most magic sets on the shelves of your local hobby shop are designed to encourage kids to get involved with the practice, they generally only require a rudimentary understanding of what magic is, and therefore, are not going to amaze and wow anyone older than an adolescent.”

Why People Stop Doing Magic Tricks

By Ken Ryan on April 29, 2019 0

One of the surprising facts that Merchant of Magic has discovered by analyzing its customers data is that the average new magician will only keep learning magic for about 6 months. All magic tricks involve 4 basic steps – discovering the secret, discovering a method to hide that secret, practicing that method and then performing it. People who just want to learn a a few quick tricks will generally fail to do enough practicing and rehearsing. Other people stop because other parts of their lives get in the way.

Key Takeaways:

  • Some people don’t want to learn all the steps to performing magic; they only want to learn a few tricks.
  • Magic requires an audience beyond one’s family and friends, and it can be challenging to find places to perform magic.
  • Sometimes real-life concerns can get in the way, and people don’t have time to practice or perform magic.

“For most people, it’s not like that at all. The majority drop away very quickly. I know this in detail because MoM holds a large amount of data about the customer journey through magic, from the first few self working tricks, to the refill supplies of the working pro.”

How to Prevent Magic Burnout

By Ken Ryan on March 4, 2019 0

Magic, like any other passion, can lend itself to burnout when enthusiastic new fans dive in headfirst, immerse themselves in it too much too fast, and then get worn out. Merchant Of Magic’s research suggests most new magic hobbyists — about seventy percent — will quit within six months, although most of the rest will stick around long term. Avoid getting so caught up in how good the top performers are that you feel like your own skills are too meager to bother developing. Practice the same tricks until you master them, but to different audiences, and avoid binge-practicing.

Key Takeaways:

  • Most people who begin learning magic, burn out in a short time and give up being a magician.
  • Break down your goals. Learn and perfect just one trick at a time before moving onto master another trick.
  • Vary your practice times into small increments instead of large blocks of time. And vary your audience so you aren’t practicing in from of the same people all the time.

“In fact, statistics from our research at the Merchant of Magic have shown that almost 70% of total beginners drift away from learning magic within 6 months of ordering their first proper magic trick, book or DVD. The remaining magicians tend to stay studying magic long term (5 years+).”

Equivoque Magic: The Greatest Power A Magician Can Possess

By Ken Ryan on February 28, 2019 0

Equivoque magic – often referred to as the Magician’s Choice – is the way in which a magician grants the audience the illusion of freedom of choice. An example: the magician asks an audience member to pick a card, but doesn’t indicate whether this card is to be removed, flipped over, etc. until after the choice is made. In other words, the audience member’s participation was meaningless, just a way to make him feel he was in control. In this and in many other ways, Equivoque becomes one of the most powerful tools a magician possesses.

Key Takeaways:

  • Equivoque Magic is one of the most sought-after magic techniques by professional magicians.
  • Mastering equivoque magic involves an intense amount of practice, paying close attention to details and having a supreme way with words.
  • The key to successful equivoque magic is to captivate the audience by allowing them to take control of the wheel and guide them into an illusion of their choice.

“This may seem simple, but pair this concept with a large deck of cards or an audience choosing or picking, and you have yourself magic deception at its finest. The same card the magician intends to be ‘the one’ is the going to be ‘the one’ whether you pick ‘the one’ or not.”
